North Wales

IOM delivery in North Wales is split across three areas:

• Gwynedd and Ynys Môn
• Conwy and Denbighshire
• Wrexham and Flint

The close working of partners is supported by co-located offices where organisations such as North Wales Police, the NPS and Wales CRC are based. In addition to this wider partners including local authorities, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the Department of Work and Pensions/Job Centre Plus are also actively involved in jointly managing cases.

All agencies meet on a monthly basis to determine who should be included on the IOM schemes according to local priority need, working with third sector and substance misuse agencies to provide those selected with a wider range of interventions which may assist in addressing factors linked to their offending behaviour.

Strong partnership links with HMP Berwyn ensure a consistent approach to the supervision of those on an IOM scheme who enter the establishment, or who are due to be released and resettled back into the community. This joined up approach provides the individual with the ongoing support they require to ensure any identified needs continue to be addressed.

Local IOM delivery in North Wales is overseen by three Steering Groups, which are aligned with the location of the local IOM delivery schemes and report into the North Wales IOM Cymru Regional Group. This group provides overall governance and strategic direction for criminal and social justice partners in the implementation of effective IOM arrangements across North Wales.

Women’s Pathfinder

The Women's Pathfinder Whole System Approach Pilot launched in Conwy and Denbighshire in October 2015. As part of this pilot the Women's Pathfinder Diversion Scheme has been delivered by North Wales Women's Centre from St Asaph Custody Suite and has to date diverted over 180 women. By working in partnership with North Wales Women's Centre there has also been agreement for Probation staff (Wales CRC and NPS) to supervise women from the centre where they are able to access a number of specialist support services, including help around Managing Emotions and Understanding Relationships.
